Z'elebration

My parents came to town on Wednesday to see the grandchildren (and Tobe and me as well, although we are not as exciting). Since we had free babysitting, I set up a nice little birthday present/anniversary recognition/job promotion celebration for Tobe. Friday started off as a normal workday for Tobe, with a little note tucked away in his laptop bag that said "Do Not Open Until 3:20pm." The note instructed him to meet me at the bar at Dragonfly at 5:30pm, where I surprised him with a night at Hotel Zaza. He had no clue I had booked such a splurge and was genuinely surprised. Fun times were had, even if we weren't fortunate enough to stay in one of the Magnificent Seven. We ate a relaxing dinner at Palomino where we enjoyed the world's largest single ravioli and did not have to cut up one chicken tender or retrieve one lost sippy cup. There was no buzz of the baby monitor providing the background music to our slumber that night and we didn't have to jump out of bed in the morning to fetch cups of apple juice or warm up a morning bottle.

We were able to enjoy a relaxing morning before heading out to Bread Winners for a tasty brunch. Although it is summer, there were quite the large number of local college students at this popular eatery. We immediately began to feel old as we realized that we are getting farther away from our college years and these kids were likely in second grade when we were entering ACU. We were pleasantly surprised to run into some good friends from ACU (Heath and Jamie..and baby Ava who is set to make her appearance in the next few weeks) who were also dinning at Breadwinners and who were staying the weekend at Hotel Zaza.

Tobe and I returned home Saturday afternoon, refreshed by sleep and rejuvenated by having uninterrupted adult conversation, ready to tackle this parenting thing again.

Awesome hotel! Next time we are in the area to leave the kids with the grandparents, we plan to check it out. Thanks for sharing.

Isn't it amazing how refreshed you feel after just one night of no monitor? Love it! I'm so glad you guys got away and had some alone time.
